The GenLayer Foundation was created to steward the growth of a new kind of trust infrastructure—one built for intelligent agents, not legacy institutions. Our role is to guide the protocol’s early development, expand its ecosystem, and help it evolve into an autonomous system governed by code, not committees.
Our commitment is clear: support long-term decentralization, adoption, innovation, and alignment with AI safety and social benefit, then step aside. Because the legal layer for the AI age should ultimately govern itself. We are actively building our replacement: the Deepthought DAO, a self-improving, AI-assisted governance system that will inherit and evolve the Foundation’s responsibilities.
We Are Stewards, Not Owners
The GenLayer Foundation exists to activate the potential of the protocol, not to control it. Our goal is to foster decentralization, drive adoption, and guide the responsible evolution of GenLayer’s infrastructure through strategic resource allocation, education, and communication. We fund what matters, facilitate what’s missing, and ensure that critical systems and values—like AI alignment, security, and public benefit, are prioritized.
But our long-term goal is to replace ourselves entirely with a self-improving, community-driven, AI-aligned system: the Deepthought DAO. This DAO will be capable of absorbing the Foundation’s responsibilities—from grantmaking and governance to protocol upgrades—while addressing many of the inefficiencies and participation challenges faced by today’s DAOs.
We take a modular, high-leverage approach to ecosystem building, focused on the interventions that matter most for long-term protocol success.
Every decision the Foundation makes, along with its rationale, will be shared publicly. Transparency is not optional, it’s essential to the legitimacy and evolution of a decentralized court system.
